| LOCAL CHARITIES & FUNDS RAISEDSudbury Dragon Boats Festival Charity Recipient 2010 The BDSFB is a very simple concept; our mandate is that every dollar raised be translated into food on the table. We have to date operated as an organization to raise funds, which we in turn transfer to area food banks/meal providers in the form of food credits at area food suppliers. In this way we guarantee that every dollar contributed will be directly translated into food on someone’s table. In current years we have also undertaken to raise awareness, support and lend support to all of the organizations under our umbrella. We also have to raise awareness and give opportunities to groups of individuals to assist clients in eliminating food insecurity issues through educating, budget training, developing health eating habits and life style choices etc.

Sudbury is a hotspot for MS, a disease that normally strikes young people between the ages of 20 to 40, and affecting three women to every one man. Thanks to Dragon Boat, we now have an MS Centre of Hope located at 2750 Bancroft Dr, Sudbury, and we hope to continue and lobby for a MS Clinic here in Sudbury, which would be the only one in the North. Recipient Charity 2000 – 2003The Sudbury Regional Hospital Foundation has raised funds for local healthcare initiatives for three decades. A separate entity from the Hospital, the Sudbury Regional Hospital Foundation’s mandate is to operate exclusively as a non-profit, charitable foundation to raise funds for medical equipment and capital construction. Millions of dollars of funds raised in our community have been used exclusively to buy patient-care equipment. Some of the hospital departments that have benefitted include: the Children's Treatment Centre, the Emergency Department, Nephrology, Cardiovascular, and Critical Care. None of this would have been possible without our many generous donors, supporters and volunteers. | |
