HISTORY
During the first 4 years of the Festival, paddlers and organizers of the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival have raised over $600,000 to support the Heart and Soul Campaign and other local charities. These donations surpassed the original commitment of $500,000. Thank you to all of our supporters for their tireless work in raising these funds for a worthy cause. In 2004 & 2005, paddlers and organizers of the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival raised $250,000 to support the Sudbury Manitoulin Alzheimer Society Capital Campaign.
THE PROCESS OF FINDING A CHARITY RECIPIENT
In September 2005, a panel of Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival executives and paddlers gathered to find a new charity. Over the course of 2 months the panel screened over 25 applications and heard presentations from 5 community groups. The panel developed criteria/questions which included – How great is the need? The immediacy of the need? Can the program, service or facility be sustained after the initial donation? What other sources of funding does the organization have access to? Where can we make the biggest difference? The panel found many worthwhile causes and many that they would like to partner with in the future. However, through a secret ballot the panel came to a unanimous decision.
2006 & 2007 CHARITY RECIPIENT
On Tuesday, November 22, 2005 the Sudbury Dragon Boat Festival announce its partnership with the Multiple Sclerosis Society’s Sudbury Chapter in raising funds for the Society’s new MS Centre.
